Retrospective
Grad Student Life
- This quarter was probably the first quarter I had where my main focus was just on research, which was quite fun! I went from no collaborators to having multiple across institutions, and within UW itself! Very fun stuff.
Classes
The only substantive(?) class I took this quarter was Social Psychology, which was educational, and very fun. Professor Levine did an amazing job with structuring the class and I felt very welcome, even if I was woefully out of place. The other students were all in social or clinical psychology, which meant that they all either knew of the topics already, or were familiar with related ideas. On the other hand,I had to start from scratch. The class made me realize that, in another life, I would definitely have pursued social psychology as a discipline.
What, in particular, did I find interesting about the class? I think my favorite aspect was, ironically, learning about Asian culture. It’s difficult to appreciate what you have until you see it compared and contrasted with something else, and I think this class offered me that. 10/10 experience :)
Misc.
Submitting the tutorials to the conferences was a huge time sink, but thankfully I did it at the start of the quarter, before things got too crazy.
I think that there’s just a lot going on in the world right now and it’s difficult to not feel emotionally burnt out. I’ve heard wise words of advice to be kind to yourself, and I’d like to remind you, dear reader, to be kind to yourself.
